My friend, I just attended a quint presenrtation about ITIL foundation courses and there are stating that people are part of the CMDB or in other wsords, a CI may be people…and I even asked a question, if we see in the exam the following question: is people part of the CMDB, and they said you answer yes….I am confused…
It’s an interesting issue – but we state that people are not items of infrastructure. They are not controlled the same way you would control a server or a PC…
I acknowledge that the “information about people” and the roles they perform can be part of the CMDB.
The point in the video is to recognize that people are managed entirely differently to infrastructure.
Actually the consultant were saying that people might be a part of the CMDB, but not just anyone in the organization, he was refering to experts, say for example you have a service, and there’s only one expert technical support for that service, in that case the guy should be a part of the CMDB as an expert, keeping in mind that one of the purposes of the CMDB is to provide enough info and relationships between your CIs so the impact of a change on that CMDB can be better assessed
if the guy (expert) will change the function, and he’s a part of the CMDB, the risk assessed of that change would be obvious…that’s the beauty of ITIL…a lot of theory, but never two similar implementations

Agreed!! That’s the challenge and the fun of ITIL. Many times there isn’t really a wrong answer. It’s about what works for your business.

The beauty of ITIL is in the theory of Services ,, Define it, Support it, then deleiver it,, ITIL has many answers for one question ,, you should think ,, but focus on the business.
In the presentation,, Routers & Switches are defferent specially in their functions. Also, People can be a part of the service. You see!! Many answers for one questions ,, Am inlove with ITIL
